200 gm Plain flour
1� tsp Baking powder
Salt
50 gm Butter or margarine
1 Egg(s)
Milk or water
700 ml Water
200 gm Granulated white sugar
1 Tbsp Butter or margarine
1 Lemon juice
1 tsp Cinnamon
Pre-heat the oven to 190�C.
Rub the fat into the dry ingredients. Add the beaten egg and sufficient milk or water ot make a scone dough. Roll the dough to form a large rectangle about 1cm thick. Spread jam over the dough and roll into a sausage shape. Place the roll into a baking dish.
To make the syrup, put the sugar and butter into a saucepan. Add the boiling water, lemon juice and cinnamon. Do not completely dissolve the sugar. Pour the syrup over the roly poly and bake until golden brown. This takes about 20 minutes.
